John DeMaster
Board Chair
John De Master received his Masters of Arts degree in Elementary Administration from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. John worked for 40 years as a teacher and school administrator in private schools. John is focused on education that supports success for all students.
Annie Campbell
Board Member
A Traverse City, Michigan native, Annie Campbell earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Michigan State University, master's degree in education from Aquinas College, certificate in fundraising management from Indiana University and certificate in strategic leadership from Harvard University. She has worked in the nonprofit industry since 2001 adn began her career at an organization called Disability Network Northern Michigan. She has worked as Development Director at PACE Center for Girls in Immokalee and as Community Director for the March of Dimes. She has served on several nonprofit boards, including the board of directors of Child and Family Services, Artists Creating Together, Third Level Crisis Center, and Benzie Housing Council. She currently serves on the board of directors for the Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Club and Eva's Closet and Foundation in Fort Myers.
Sam Ankerson

Sam joined the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum in Sanibel as Executive Director in March, 2021. Prior to that he was Deputy Director at the Norton Museum of Art (West Palm Beach, FL), managing operations including communications, visitor experience, facility, program, and COVID-19 response and reopening. Before moving to Florida, Sam lived in Vermont, working for 14 years in development and communications at Shelbourne Museum, and for four years in major gift fundraising at the University of Vermont. He began his career in the music business. Sam and his wife Emily have two daughters, two cats, and two dogs!
Board Vice Chair
Vanessa Luna was born and raised in Fort Myers, FL and graduated from Cypress Lake High School. She currently works with the Lee County Clerk of Courts as an Assistant Supervisor for the Courts intake department. Vanessa's daughter graduated from the Charter School and her son is currently enrolled in Harlem Heights Community Charter School.
David Lowden
Secretary/Treasurer
Originally from Shaker Hts, Ohio David Lowden’s family have been residents of Sanibel and later Ft Myers, Florida since 1982. A graduate of the University of Colorado in Boulder, he returned in 1985 to make Sanibel his home. His career in banking leadership on the island spans more than 25 years, starting with a small local bank called First Federal. David also spent several years working for NationsBank, Bank of America and JP Morgan Chase Bank. Today David is Vice President of Private Client Relations at the Bank of the Islands on Sanibel Island. David and his wife, Kelly, have three children, all attending Florida Universities: The University of Miami - School of Architecture, Florida State University and Florida Gulf Coast University. David is a former board member of the Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation and currently serves on the Heights Charter School and the Big Arts Sanibel Board of Directors.
