QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.

  2. Completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher education; or   Associate’s Degree (or higher) degree; or Successful completion of a formal academic assessment that demonstrates, as appropriate, either

    -knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing in reading, writing, mathematics and other academic subjects; or

    -knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness.

  3. Demonstrated ability to follow written and oral directions in both English and the student’s native language.

  4. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups.

  5. Experience with industry-standard computer applications, preferred.

  6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Principal or his/her designee.

JOB GOAL

To assist instructional staff in achieving student academic needs and the objectives of the school.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assists the classroom teacher in administering and scoring individual and group tests.

  2. Works within the classroom with students, ensuring comprehensive understanding of the teacher’s lessons, including assistance in the use of technology.

  3. Participates on occasion, in orientation, parent and school meetings, committees, and encourages parent participation

  4. Assists in maintaining appropriate student records.

  5. Assists in monitoring the progress of students as appropriate

  6. Works with teachers to reinforce positive learning and cultural behavior patterns among students.

  7. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs related work as required (NOTE: The omission of specific statements of

logical assignment to the position.)position.)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.

Performance of this job is assessed annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on assessment of certificated personnel.
